The Statue of Liberty is back in business
The Statue of Liberty will be re-opening on 4 July 2009 having been closed - for safety and security reasons - since 11 September 2001.For those who fancy being one of the first through 'Lady Liberty's' doors, US operator, Bon Voyage is offering three-night breaks - throughout July - at £699 per person.
This twin share price includes return BA flights from Heathrow, taxes and room-only accommodation at the centrally located four-star Marriott Courtyard Hotel.
For those who prefer to wait 'until the rush has died down', the same break departing between 22 and 31 August , costs £575 per person.
The statue, which will close again in two years time, has undergone a huge amount of work including upgrades to the handrails on the staircase and more staff stationed throughout the building to aid visitors.
The crown of the statue can only be reached by a narrow 168-step spiral staircase, with access limited to 10 people at a time, accompanied by a National Park ranger.
