Walk along the balcony of the Alps

27th May 2009 Print
Walk along the balcony of the Alps Walking specialist operator, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, is offering one and two week tours in the beautiful Alpine region of Alta Valle di Susa – on the border with France and Italy. Often referred to as ‘The Balcony of the Alps’ it has a sunshine record comparable to Taormina in Sicily.

The holiday provides an ideal opportunity to walk through spectacular larch, pine and spruce glades and pastures where cattle graze amongst tranquil alpine flora. Wild life abounds with red deer, chamois, roe deer, wild boars and marmots.

Local peaks include Monte Genevris and Mount Chaberton and, weather permitting, a glimpse of Mt Blanc 40 miles to the North.

As well as a feast for the eyes the region is renowned gastronomically for its superb cheeses, cured meats, mushrooms and regional specialities like, potato dumplings (ghenefle) and game with maize porridge.

Price from £590 (1 week) and £844 (two weeks) per person includes return flights from Gatwick to Turin, transfers, half board accommodation at the centrally located and recently refurbished 4 star Hotel Relais des Alpes and the services of a tour leader.
