Camp Biche slims down for cash strapped clientele

With more ‘economic fitness’ in mind, the new programme has been introduced to help guests lose weight and not cash. The seven night programme ‘Budget Biche’ will run on July 18th, August 8th and September 19th with participants sharing a twin or double room (same sex singles will be paired up in twin accommodation).
The idea draws into line with a more basic French life, cutting back on the luxuries such as a full range of bathroom cosmetics, 24-7 concierge service and daily massages, to focus on the core values of Camp Biche.
The groups will be larger in size, however the maximum number per programme will still only be 12. The fitness regime remains central to the experience combining lengthy hikes in the stunning French countryside, with circuit training at the 13th century Chateau.
The Camp Biche concept is based on the 'French Paradox' – a method of living and eating that explains why the French can regularly drink wine and eat fatty foods like cheese and pastries, but still have lower incidents of obesity, heart disease and diabetes. The retreat is physically challenging, mentally inspiring and will accelerate weight loss. A key element of the Camp Biche regime is de-stressing and 'detoxing' the mind, so any form of media interaction is dissuaded.
Camp Biche is the brainchild of American, Libby Pratt. Libby comments "Camp Biche is all about kick starting exercise and fitness goals, and learning from the French how to adopt a sane and joyful approach to food and eating. For ‘Budget Biche’, we are still offering the same accommodation and fitness instruction however I have cut back on a few of the extravagances to be able to offer a lower price in these more economical times.”
There are soothing spa facilities on site for those who wish to indulge and pay the extra and each room is beautifully finished, with antique beds – but don't expect mod cons such as flat screen TVs. A week here is all about getting away from everyday stresses, quieting one's mind, and living simply; so telephones, TVs and radios are not provided.
A typical day at Camp Biche starts with breakfast, followed by a 3-5 hour hike in the gorgeous countryside (the first hour of which is in silence). There is an intensive circuit session in the afternoon. The highlight of the evenings is the fantastic four-course meal accompanied by wonderful local wines.
The week long ‘Budget Biche’ package is available on the following dates, July 18th, August 8th and September 19th and is offered for 1200 Euros based on two sharing. The price does not include flights or train travel.
