That’ll be the day - To celebrate the life of a legend

8th June 2009 Print
Thousands of music fans will be making their way to a small town near Amarillo this year to celebrate the life of a Rock ’n’ Roll legend. Leading escorted tour operator Travelsphere is making sure the music and the memories of Buddy Holly don’t fade away with a special journey through his short but productive life with the ‘Buddy Holly Experience’.

Buddy Holly died in a plane crash on 3 February 1959, just as his star was rising. Twenty two years earlier Buddy Holley – the spelling was changed when he hit the big time – was born near-by in the small town of Lubbock just off the famous Route 66.

Fans can explore the home where Buddy grew up and first rehearsed with his band, The Crickets.

There is also a visit to the place where he made his home with Maria Elena Santiago – the young girl who became his bride and his widow in such a short space of time.

The famous KDAV studios – where Buddy Holly and the Crickets cut their first record - will open their doors to visitors on the Travelsphere tour which culminates with a viewing of the Buddy Holly statue and walk of fame and a visit to the musical icon’s grave.

Further highlights of this magical 17-day tour include sightseeing tours of Chicago, St Louis, St Charles, Springfield, Oklahoma and Los Angeles; a visit to Palo Duro Canyon State Park and a visit to the Petrified Forest National Park.

Prices for the ‘Buddy Holly Experience’ start from £1,874 per person and this includes scheduled flights to Chicago returning from Los Angeles, fourteen nights’ room-only accommodation, all state and local taxes, transfers and the services of a Travelsphere Tour Manager. Departs 7 September 2009.
