Narrowboat holidays offer family value

22nd June 2009 Print
Warwickshire-based Kate Boats is highlighting the three-in-one nature of narrowboat hire for family holiday value. Cheryl Howes – partner in this family-run business celebrating 25 years – points out that hiring a narrow boat includes the three most important aspects of a holiday in one inclusive price.

1. Accommodation – these floating holiday homes are equipped with hot showers, flushing loos and all mod cons such as TVs – standards as high as any rented cottage.

2. Travel – park the car at base and your holiday home becomes also your transport, chugging along the canals at four miles an hour along picturesque routes.

3. Sightseeing – see herons, kingfishers, even otters as you glide through lush English countryside. Meet the locals on the tow-path, become an expert on locks…. There’s plenty to see and do – all for free.

A week’s holiday on the three-star ‘Dorothy Constance’, a 45-foot narrowboat sleeping up to five, costs between £871 and £1126 in August, ie around £200 per person based on full occupancy.

This includes free parking at Kate Boats’ base, instruction, canal licence, diesel, energy for heating, light and cooking and bedding as well as buoyancy aids.
