Kennedy Space Centre holds ‘Man on the Moon’ Celebrations
Head to the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida this July to join in the mega 40th anniversary ‘man on the moon’ celebrations, courtesy of US specialist, Bon Voyage.Festivities start on the 16 July – which marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 launch from Pad 39a – and highlights on the day include:
• An elite group of astronauts – including Walt Cunningham, Buzz Aldrin, Edgar Mitchell and Al Worden – gathering under a gigantic 363-foot long Saturn V rocket to share their personal stories in a public ceremony
• The opening of a new exhibit at the Apollo Treasures Gallery of a rare collection of space suits and other gear used by the Apollo moonwalkers to explore the lunar surface during space walks.
• Book signing by Buzz Aldrin of his autobiography ‘Magnificent Desolation: The Long Journey Home from the Moon’
Celebrations continue throughout the week and include a ‘MoonPie’ day on 20 July – the anniversary of the first steps on the moon - when visitors are invited to enjoy a slice of a huge confection of chocolate and marshmallow weighing in at 55lbs.
