Moonwalk your way to Jackson’s shrine at Hitsville

9th July 2009 Print
Head to Detroit – the original headquarters of Motown Records and home to the Motown Historical Museum where the Jackson Five recorded many of their big hits – courtesy of US specialist, Bon Voyage.

The museum – which has now become a shrine to Michael Jackson - was given its nickname of ‘Hitsville’ by its founder Berry Gordy who spoke at this week’s memorial service to ‘the King of Pop’.

Highlights of the museum include the trademark jewelled white glove and fedora hat worn by Michael Jackson, along with original stage uniforms worn by famous Motown artistes, sheet music, early promotional materials and rare photographs.

Visitors can get an ‘up close’ view of the original control room equipment used to record the ‘Motown Sound’ and also learn how special sound effects were created in the innovative echo chamber.

Prices for a four-night break to Detroit with Bon Voyage lead in at £529 per person (twin share) inclusive of return flights from Heathrow, taxes and room-only accommodation at the four-star Omni River Place Hotel.
