The maximum reduction applies at Lanyards, a terraced, waterside cottage (sleeps five) at Pembroke Ferry and just a few minutes’ drive from South Pembrokeshire’s sandy beaches. A week’s rental starting 17 and 24 July is now £570 (saving £142).

For larger families/groups, Sunnyridge is a huge house (sleeps 10) set in an acre of garden overlooking Carmarthen Bay and a two-minute walk from Amroth’s sandy beach. A week from 25 July is now £1663 (saving £184).

Although Cornish Cottages has seen demand soar as more families opt to holiday in the UK this year, an expanded portfolio means that there are a few gaps left for peak season…some with substantial savings for those still hoping to enjoy the beaches and beauty of England’s south-west corner.

For example, Ocean View is set on cliff above Mullion Cove with spectacular views and with beaches – Mullion Cove, Polurrian Cove and Poldhu Cove – all within an easy walk. Sleeping seven, the property is available for weeks commencing 25 July and 22 August at the new price of £1375 (saving £140).

Also available is 4 Trewince, a spacious apartment (sleeps four) in an Edwardian mansion set in three acres of landscaped gardens a few minutes from the creek-side village of Porth Navas and the Helford River. A week’s rental from 15 or 22 August – is £599 (saving £50).

Yorkshire Cottages reports a virtual sell-out for peak season but where there are gaps, there are serious savings to be made.

Burnside View, for example, a two-bedroom five-star apartment – part of a converted Victorian house, so all high ceilings and sash windows – has been reduced by £70 for a week, from 25 July, to £430 and by £50 throughout August, bringing the cost of seven nights down to £450. Sleeping four, it’s just 100 yards from the centre of the popular town of Hawes in the Dales.

Meanwhile, for couples, Kisdon at Swaledale House, in the Dales’ foothills, has been reduced by £55 to only £395 for all available weeks throughout July and August. Apart from a panoramic vista of Kisdon Fell, the one-bedroom apartment also has access to an outdoor hot tub with spectacular views down the valley.
