Get up close with the famous big cats
People are being offered the opportunity to study three of the world’s most famous big cats in one of the last true wilderness areas of Africa by Biosphere Expeditions – the award winning, non profit making conservation specialist which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. The conservation expedition is to the Caprivi delta of Namibia, Botswana and Zambia where you will be studying lions, leopards and cheetahs as well as spotted hyaenas and wild dogs. You will be part of a small international group, which will include a scientist and an expedition leader.
The expedition will capture the key animals and fit them with radio collars to make them easier to monitor. It will also look at their major prey species both wild and domestic.
Human population in the area will be surveyed as well as conducting investigations into the ecology of human predator conflict to help develop strategies that will promote co-existence between people and predators.
The Caprivi Delta has a great variety of African wildlife, and the study area is adjacent to the famous wildlife hotspots of the Okavango delta and Chobe National park in Botswana which is rarely visited by foreigners.
The 12 day expeditions run from August to November 2009 and the cost is £1690 per person, excluding travel to and from Africa.
