Mumbai to Delhi by luxury train
Great Rail Journeys, the UK’s market leader for escorted holidays by rail, has expanded its range of tours to India for 2010 with the introduction of a new 10-day Indian Maharaja itinerary which travels right across the north of the country – from Mumbai to Delhi – on board the luxury train, the Deccan Odyssey.Discover ancient Buddhist and Hindu culture at the World Heritage sites of the Ellora and Ajanta Caves and look for tigers, leopards and other native wildlife in the Ranthambhor National Park (this is the only place in India where tigers are still found in the wild).
There are also visits to Udaipur’s lakes and palaces, the Pink City of Jaipur – including the Amber Fort, the Palace of the Winds and the City Palace – as well as the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort at Agra together with the ancient red sandstone city of Fatehpur Sikri.
Other highlights of the holiday include sightseeing tours of the cities of Mumbai – including the Dhobi Ghats and the Ghandi Memorial – and Old and New Delhi, taking in the country’s largest mosque – Jama Masjid – India Gate and Rastrapathi Bhawan, the official residence of the President.
Available with departures in February, April, October and November 2010, the cost is from £2895 per person, twin-share inclusive of return scheduled Heathrow flights, transfers, eight nights’ mainly full board accommodation (including seven in a deluxe cabin on board the Deccan Odyssey), all excursions as per the itinerary and the services of a Tour Manager throughout.
