17th July 2009 Print
Discover the hidden Hong Kong Hong Kong is recognised as one of the most exciting and vibrant cities in the World but, behind the popular façade, is a relatively undiscovered region of islands, stunning countryside and coasts.

Britain’s leading guided walks operator, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, is offering a two week holiday embracing, not only the city itself, but its surrounding unspoilt countryside plus, a visit to mysterious Macau.

After one has savoured the many delights of Hong Kong with its colourful street markets, skyscrapers, ferries, sampans and floating restaurants, its time to escape the hustle and bustle.

One heads to ‘havens of peace’ like Lantau Island to find Tai O – (a village seemingly from the Middle Ages) and walk on car-free Lamma Island.

Next, its north to Kowloon towards the border with mainland China and the New Territories – a National and Country Park – which is crossed by the 128 mile long Maclehose Trail.

The countryside coastal paths are peppered with Chinese temples and the colonial Kowloon – Canton Railway gives easy access to mainland China.

Also on the itinerary is Macau – a former Portuguese colony – 40 miles across the Pearl River Estuary.

Price from £1,435 per person, includes return flights, half-board accommodation (except for two dinners) and the services of a tour leader.
