An unforgettable summer challenge

24th July 2009 Print
An unforgettable summer challenge Lucozade Energy is challenging fans to do more with their energy with a series of once in a lifetime challenges taking place this summer.

The fourth challenge is now open with the opportunity for one winner and 3 of his/her mates to take on an incredible yacht sailing challenge in the Caribbean island of St Maarten.

The group will head to the Caribbean’s most picturesque island, home to miles of white sandy beaches and crystal clear blue waters, where they will be trained by a member of an American Cup team in the quest to win a competitive race aboard an America’s Cup-winning yacht.

As well as learning how to sail a F1 yacht, the group will also have the chance to explore the magnificent island and take to the sea for some snorkeling in the crystal clear waters.

It couldn’t be easier to enter, simply visit Lucozade Energy, enter the challenge and invite three mates to share the experience.

The winners of the fourth challenge will set out on 15th August 2009 and follow a water filled itinerary in the hope of winning the race with a World winning yacht.

Some top highlights include:

Challenge day 1: Off to sunny St Maarten
The group jets off to the luxurious Sonesta Great Bay Resort in St Maarten, a stunning property in a beach-front location overlooking miles of white, sandy beaches

Challenge day 2: Getting to grips with the Ocean
After a hearty breakfast, the group will be transferred across the island to the bay that will be the setting of their challenge. They will be briefed by a top class skipper (and member of the previous America’s Cup team) on the crucial details of the bay, including its wind patterns and currents. Then the group will be taken to the marina, where they will be introduced to the America’s Cup-winning yacht they will sail during the week. Finally they will spend an afternoon on the water with Wave Runner Jet-Skis.

Challenge day 3: Training day
Today the group will head straight to the bay, beginning their day with an in-depth land-based briefing on the technical skills they require to race their yacht, before taking to the Ocean for the first time for an intense session of ‘sea training’. This session will give them their first opportunity to gain hands-on experience of what it takes to sail a F1 yacht

Challenge day 4: Prep before the big day
The group will enjoy their second day of on land & sea training. Hopefully by this stage they will have developed specific skills and preferences for certain positions on the yacht and formed strong relationships with the rest of their crew in prep for the ultimate challenge the following day

Challenge day 5: Challenge day arrives
The group will gather with the rest of their crew for a pre-race technical meeting on the prevailing weather conditions and the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition crew in the day’s challenge regatta. The ultimate test approaches as the group race their yacht against a fully-crewed opposition boat over the course of two regattas in the hope of gaining the winning trophy

Challenge days 6&7: Homeward bound
After enjoying a morning at leisure, reminiscing over the week’s activities, the group head home, fully fledged pro sailing champions!

Want to keep up to date with the winners’ adventure? Track their journey here and also check out the Lucozade Facebook page, where there will be regular updates, photos and videos on their experience.

The fourth challenge closes at midnight on 6 August, so make sure you enter now to avoid disappointment. The winners will also be announced (to the envy of many) on the Lucozade site and Facebook page on Monday 10 August, before jetting off to St Maartin later that week. More information on the final challenge will follow soon.
