Gentex announces new programme with Mercedes-Benz

9th April 2009 Print
Gentex Corporation, the leading supplier of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors to the worldwide automotive industry, has announced that it is shipping fully featured auto-dimming rearview mirrors for the all-new 2009 Mercedes GLK. The small sports utility vehicle (SUV) is the latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz brand's global product portfolio. The mirrors are available as optional equipment in multiple markets.

Interior auto-dimming mirrors on the GLK are available with varying options including a compass utilising Gentex's proprietary Z-Nav technology, a highly-accurate sensor that determines the vehicle's directional heading; a universal garage door opener; microphones; and map-lights. A drivers-side exterior auto-dimming mirror is also available. Gentex mirrors darken automatically in response to the headlamp glare of rearward-approaching vehicles.

"This is the first compass programme at Mercedes and we are hopeful this will open up additional compass business with the manufacturer in the future," said Enoch Jen, senior vice president.

Founded in 1974, Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ: GNTX) is an international company that provides high-quality products to the worldwide automotive industry and North American fire protection market. Based in Zeeland, Michigan, the company develops, manufactures and markets interior and exterior automatic-dimming automotive rearview mirrors that utilise proprietary electrochromic technology to dim in proportion to the amount of headlight glare from trailing vehicle headlamps. Many of the mirrors are sold with advanced electronic features, and more than 96 percent of the company's revenues are derived from the sale of auto-dimming mirrors to nearly every major automaker in the world.
