Experience Slovenia’s ‘Cows’ Ball’ festival

20th August 2009 Print
As if the scenic delights of Lake Bohinj in Slovenia weren’t enough for most visitors, those holidaying there around 20 September have the option to take in one of the region’s oldest and most quaint festivals.

The traditional ‘Cows’ Ball’ celebrates the return to the lakeside villages of the cattle that have been grazing the mountain pastures all summer. As well as a parade of the bovine stars with their herdsmen, today’s festival includes old-fashioned entertainment – music, dancing and crafts – together with the chance to sample local food and drink.

Holiday Options is highlighting a choice of hotels around Lake Bohinj for week commencing 19 September. For example, a week with breakfast at the three-star Pension Gasperin is £519 per person (twin share) inclusive of return flights from Gatwick and transfers.
