The International Village combines altruism, tourism, and education with a safe environment to deliver a revolutionary new concept: an eco-lodge that serves as both a volunteer hub for travelers and a permanent educational and job-training center for residents. 100% of the proceeds from trip bookings go directly to the impoverished Barut community within Nakuru.

Wrestling the World (wrestlingtheworld.org), an American humanitarian nonprofit organization, collaborated with the Barut community to develop the International Village. In Kenya, community-owned and operated eco-lodges are prevalent. While they support local livelihoods and economies, they do not always encourage interaction between guests and the local people. The International Village changes that by blurring the line between resident and tourist. It is a locally operated facility that offers casual, meaningful exchange between travelers and residents, and access to an extensive menu of volunteer projects in the area.

In addition to cultural engagement, guests will have opportunities to experience the nature attractions of the area including a Big 5 safari in the vast Masai Mara game reserve and hiking to the Thompson Falls and Menengai Crater. All trip bookings, volunteer program management, and tour operations are fully managed by Wrestling the World and the International Village staff.

The International Village is a not-for-profit enterprise that will have a permanent and significant presence in the community by offering a source of job and vocational training to help Barut residents improve their life situations, as well as making an important contribution to Kenyan tourism.

Select from a wide range of meaningful volunteering opportunities that your whole family can engage in to help the community in the way that interests you most. Head out with a local guide on safari and trek to one of the area’s many natural wonders. Engage in the community’s evening activities, dances, and bonfires. Land Cost is $1999/person. Includes: 12 nights lodging, 3 meals a day, ground transportation, veteran guides, camping gear, airport transfers, 2-day safari in Masai Mara. Special September offer: Book 2 guests from the same family and get the 3rd for $650.
