Legendary Château of Nantes reopens

Built in the 13th Century on a Gallo-Roman wall and flanked by dramatic granite towers and ramparts, this ancient royal and ducal residence has been transformed into a permanent multimedia museum dedicated to the colourful history of the Château, Nantes and the Loire Estuary.
Available in English and French, this interactive portrait of the city and its surrounds recreates great moments of European and world history including the dynastic conflict over the Duchy of Brittany, the birth of three-way trade, the development of modern industry and the golden age of shipbuilding.
The Château has also selected 800 artefacts for display from the city’s 50,000 strong collection which includes paintings from JMW Turner, the Edict of Nantes signed by Henri IV and an exquisite gold reliquary that holds the heart of Anne, Duchess of Brittany.
For the first time visitors will also be able to visit rooms previously closed, enjoy a full tour of the ramparts affording views of the city as it has never been seen before, as well as a programme of major exhibitions and year-round special events.
The Château is open from 10am to 7pm daily (from 9:30am until 7pm as of mid May to mid September). It is closed on Tuesday. Entry costs £3.60 per adult, under 18s free. Audio guide £2. For further information visit Chateau-nantes.fr
