Highland Games in Kansas!

Kansas Highland Games The September 2007 McPherson Scottish Festival will host the official world championships for Highland heavy athletes aged 40 and over. Nine world championships are at stake for both men and women in various age groups.

Attired in Scottish style kilts, competitors from the United States, Canada and Europe will test their strength and endurance in events such as tossing the caber and throwing the Scottish hammer.

The 2007 Masters World Championship will take place on the first day of the McPherson Kansas Scottish Festival and Highland Games, followed on Sunday by the Masters Strongman Nationals. Strongman includes farmer's walk, Fingal fingers, and loading medleys for both men and women competitors.

Festival chairman John Ferrell says, "The festival is pleased to host two such prestigious Masters athletic events- a World and a National. We expect to see 80 to 100 athletes from the U.S. and indeed around the world. In fact, two registrants from Norway are already signed up".

The 14th McPherson Scottish Festival will be at Lakeside Park in McPherson, Kansas on Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23, 2007 from 9 am to 4 pm each day.

Featured in addition to athletics are:

• Bagpipe and Highland dance competitions
• A gathering of clan societies
• Demonstrations of Irish dance and clogging
• Border collies
• Falcons and raptors
• Live steel bands
• British cars
• Celtic marketplace
• Children's games and crafts
• A food court with Scottish meat pies

All are family activities celebrating Celtic heritage.
