An invitation to chill . . .

13th March 2007 Print
AquaCity A new Sky Europe flight from Stansted to Poprad in northern Slovakia further opens up travel to AquaCity resort, the world's most environmentally friendly destination and home of `cryotherapy', the process of kick starting the body by chilling out in a room cooled to minus 120 degrees C.

AquaCity resort is the first European destination to be given Green Hero status for its commitment to environmental policies.

It has also been awarded a Green Apple Environmental Award from the Green Organisation for environmental best practice. AquaCity already uses thermal mineral water to centrally heat its two hotels, to supply the water park and spa and to generate 60-80% of its electricity requirement. It aims to be entirely self powered and emission free within two years.

Cryotherapy is the process of kick-starting the body's healing processes through exposure to extreme temperatures. With its origins in ancient Japan, the technique involves spending up to two minutes in a Cryo Chamber, cooled to minus 120 degrees C, followed by 20 minutes of vigorous exercise to rapidly warm the body. Though skin temperature drops by several degrees, the body's internal temperature changes only slightly, enough to stimulate hormones and endorphines to improve mood, reduce stress, alleviate depression and speed up healing, reducing pain and swelling.
