Arctic Monkeys Set To Rock Ibiza

16th May 2007 Print
Ibiza Rocks Ibiza Rocks with Sony Ericsson is back for a third year and once again, it’s set to rock the island to its core. As well as continuing to showcase and nurture the very best in new talent, Ibiza Rocks will play host to some of the UK’s biggest bands as Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, The View, Fratellis, LCD Soundsystem, CSS, The Enemy and Mika hit Manumission’s beach side music venue, Bar M every Tuesday between 19th June & 11th September.

Following two years of rockin’ and rollin’ in the sun, Ibiza Rocks has established itself as one of the must see music events of the summer and now firmly holds its own against some of Europe’s biggest and best music events and festivals. Live music lovers and party goers alike can now get booking and expect even more of a sun soaked splash of brilliant live bands in Ibiza this summer

Ibiza Rocks owns the indie invasion of the White Isle and has changed perceptions of Ibiza and its music scene forever. With some of the biggest and best live bands taking to the open air stage in Bar M’s intimate and stunning beach side setting, Ibiza Rocks offers a truly unique experience and this year will be no exception – the music speaks for itself!

Long standing Ibiza Rocks resident DJ Zane Lowe is back on board and will do what he does best at selected Ibiza Rocks gigs throughout the summer.
Zane will be in good company alongside DJ sensations Rob Da Bank and Mark Ronson who will appear as special guest DJ’s throughout the season.

Zane Lowe will also make Ibiza Rocks his base for a special Radio 1 Presents...IBIZA ROCKS at Bar M as part of Radio 1's Ibiza weekend. Radio
1 will be recording highlights from its Ibiza Rocks special to broadcast back to listeners in the UK.

Scottish sensations, The View, will kick off this years shenanigans on 19th June. This will be a very welcome return for the four lads from Dundee who debuted at the Ibiza Rocks mini festival last year. It will be a proud moment as Ibiza Rocks welcomes the now platinum selling No.1 band back to headline their very own Ibiza Rocks show.

This year, we will also see some girls get in on the action as indie dance outfit CSS grace the stage on 10th July.

Ibiza Rocks veterans, Kasabian, will return for the second year running to play two show stopping shows on 16th & 17th July. After last year’s sold out success, the Leicester lads are back by popular demand and are set to wow the crowds once again with tracks from their No.1 album ‘Empire’.

Described as the Pharrell Williams of punk-funk, LCD Soundsystem bring their eclectic mix of bass & house to the party island on 18th July. No stranger to Ibiza’s sunny shores, LCD Soundsystem played Manumissions back room before the indie invasion began, but now James Murphy will become the 'Disco Infiltrator' and bring the front of the house down at Bar M!

On 31st July it will be hot new kids on the block, The Enemy, who will take centre stage at Ibiza Rocks. The trio from Coventry might say ‘It’s Not Ok,’ when they sing, but it’s definitely ok when it comes to Ibiza Rocks.

Songwriter, performer, producer, orchestrator and one of this years biggest European success stories – it can only be Mika. Mika’s sensationally flamboyant live performances have left him likened to the man who was arguably the greatest front man of all time, Freddie Mercury.

The legendary Mr. Mercury made his mark on Ibiza when he performed at the infamous Ku club and last year, Mika followed in his footsteps as he performed his first ever live gig for Manumission at the same venue. No.
1 platinum selling artist and master entertainer Mika has made Ibiza Rocks his No.1 choice this summer and will return triumphant on 7th August.

Ibiza Rocks is clearly a very special experience for the bands as well as the fans as they just keep coming back for more! Global smash hit sensations, Arctic Monkeys, will be rockin’ the Balearics and the whole of Ibiza will get on their dancing shoes for this very special performance on 1st September. For a band that recently sold out two nights at the 50’000 capacity Old Trafford Cricket Ground, this 700 capacity gig looks set to be one seriously hot ticket this summer.

Lastly, Glasgow’s finest, Fratellis, will return to San Antonio’s sandy beaches for two nights of high octane, dirty rock n’ roll. Named as ‘The Best New Band in Britain’ by NME, the Brit Award Winners made their mark supporting Kasabian at Ibiza Rocks last year but this year the spotlight will be firmly fixed on the Fratellis on 3rd & 4th September.

And this year Channel 4 will once again be on hand to capture the excitement of this year’s events following the success of last year’s TV series, which featured bands Dirty Pretty Things , Editors and Kasabian.

Channel 4 for the second year will be working with production company 1010 in securing a follow up 8-part series for 4music. In addition there will be postcards from the events in T4.

Sangeeta Bhaskar, Channel 4’s Deputy Commissioning Editor for T4 & Music
said: “We’re really pleased and proud to have such a fresh and innovative series as Ibiza Rocks returning to Channel 4 for a second specially extended series and are confident that it will once again reflect what has become one of Europe’s hottest summer events.”

This year the headline acts at Ibiza Rocks will be supported by bands discovered through FREEDM. Dr Martens, the iconic British brand rooted in music heritage, created FREEDM to encourage self-expression and give talented young artists opportunities they wouldn't otherwise get. The music strand of FREEDM will come to life in its truest form this summer, giving hot new bands the chance to break through by being part of Ibiza Rocks. Acts selected through FREEDM2.com and selected media partners will rise to the occasion supporting some of the biggest bands in the world.

Andy McKay, Ibiza Rocks Promoter said: “It’s safe to say that the debate is over and Ibiza Rocks! When we launched, many people laughed at the idea of bringing live bands to Ibiza and it was very hard to book the bands. The bands we booked a couple of years ago as relative unknowns are now returning to headline as platinum selling No.1 artists…it’s an amazing feeling to be entering our third year and a proud moment to be launching with such a strong line up.”

So, there’s no denying it – Ibiza Rocks! Those not lucky enough to catch the action out in Ibiza can tune in to XFM for all the latest news and broadcasts of the best live performances throughout the summer.
