Puy Du Fou – A French theme park holiday with a difference

16th July 2007 Print
Puy Du Fou If you are thinking of taking the kids on holiday to France this year but are tired of the same old things to do, it's time to visit Le Grand Parc du Puy du Fou. Merging education with entertainment, this amazing historical theme park will thrill kids and adults alike.

Opening 18 April-23 September in 2007, Puy du Fou is a family attraction which will take you on an historic journey through time. From spectacular chariot-races to historic themed villages there is something for everyone to enjoy and learn about on the way.

A 6,000-seat Gallo-Roman amphitheatre resounds with the thrills of the Roman games – with gladiator fights, chariot races and wild animal displays. Across the park a massive fortress with incredible special effects brings to life Viking battles and medieval sieges. For the less bloodthirsty, visit the water theatre, marvel at the birds of prey in the Phantom Birds Dance or see craftsmen at work in the Medieval City and the 18th Century Village. Set in the heart of over 100 acres of forest with faithfully recreated Renaissance gardens, the park is also a beautiful haven for plants and wildlife.

And when night falls that is not the end of the magic. The highlight of Puy du Fou is the spectacular musical show, La Cinéscénie. A cast of nearly 3000 take you on a journey through 700 years of history featuring spectacular sword fights, equestrian displays, fearless fire eaters and thrilling light and water displays.

Puy du Fou is perfect for a family weekend away or for a day out as part of a longer holiday. Situated in La Vendée one hour from Nantes, it is ideally situated to break up a journey down to the south coast. This year there is the addition of Villa Gallo-Romaine, the park's first hotel with 100 themed rooms to complete your Puy du Fou experience. It’s time to pack up the kids and have a trip the whole family will remember to the magical world of Le Grand Parc du Puy du Fou.
