Summer fun at Bolton Museums

Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Archive is the place of inspiration, enjoyment and learning, right in the heart of town. Regular hands-on activities are held every Saturday and during the week, alongside exciting exhibitions and fascinating displays.
The big exhibition taking place this summer is Something Old, Something New: Bolton’s Brides and their Dresses. This fascinating show explores three centuries of local brides, their big days and the stunning outfits they wore, through dress, film and photography. The exhibition runs from July 21 until November 3, 2007 and admission is free.
Smithills Hall is an 800 year-old architectural gem set in 2,000 acres of parkland to the north of the town. Playing host to some brilliant events, this summer’s highlights include a daily quiz, an insect safari, teddy bear’s picnic, a Victorian garden party and Robin Hood re-told as an outdoor theatre production.
Hall i’ th’ Wood Museum is a 16th century Tudor mansion and this summer a daily sunflower summer quiz, regular craft sessions, a history comes alive day and even a night-time bat watch have been organised.
Executive Member for Culture and Community Services, Councillor Ismail Ibrahim, said: “Summer is always a time when parents and guardians are looking for things to see and do with the children and we have organised some excellent events at our three brilliant venues, with something for everyone. Whether it’s hands-on art activities, quizzes, a garden party or outdoor theatre, Bolton’s museums are definitely the places to go.”
