Robin Hood rides into town for a special performance

Robin hood A family show that was awarded the title Best Show for Young People at last year’s Buxton Fringe Festival comes to Bolton next month for a very special performance in the grounds of the historic Smithills Hall.

Robin Hood Retold, a new production from Pals Production Theatre Company that was one of 116 entries at Buxton’s big event last July, comes to Smithills Hall for a one-off performance on Friday, August 17, starting at 7pm.

This open-air performance in one of Bolton’s most spectacular settings promises to be an evening of family fun and laughter, based on the well-loved tale of Robin Hood, but with a comical new twist.

The plot revolves around the long-suffering people of Nottingham who are filled with hope when they hear there’s a hooded hero in town robbing from the rich to give to the poor. They are certain the brave outlaw can save them from the clutches of the evil Prince John and his hideous sidekick the Sheriff of Nottingham.

However, things start to go awry when the legendary Robin Hood doesn’t quite live up to his reputation…

This age-old story, written exclusively for Midlands-based Pals Productions, is given a new lease of life as Robin and his nylon-clad crew battle to bring down Prince John, free the peasants and win the key to Maid Marian’s heart.

Councillor Ismail Ibrahim, Executive Member for Culture and Community Services, said: “We are delighted to be putting on an open air performance of this classic family tale at Smithills. It’s a brilliant setting for what is sure to be a fantastic show and is one that can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what their age.”

Tickets for the event are £8.00/£6.00 concessions and are available from the box office at the Albert Halls in the town centre. Web - Alberthalls-bolton.co.uk.
