Avalon Leisure, based in Street, Somerset, has recently received national accolades for its management and service standards. The company manages leisure centres on behalf of Mendip District Council and Western Community Leisure (a leisure trust), as well as a health and fitness club at Farrington Golf and Country Club.Frome Leisure Centre has recently been re-assessed under the most sought after leisure industry quality assurance award, Quest, and has been awarded a score that places it amongst the best in the UK.
Avalon Leisure was the first organisation in the South West region to achieve the prestigious award after it was launched by Sport England ten years ago. Wells Leisure Centre and Strode Pool, Street, are already recognised as amongst the top 10 per cent UK leisure centres. The facilities are assessed against a comprehensive range of management standards, including a ‘mystery shopper’ visit by independent experts.
At the same time, Avalon has also learnt that its Avalon Lifestyle health and fitness club based at Farrington Golf and Country Club has been short listed in a final three for the fitness industry’s annual club of the year awards, in the smaller clubs category. The result will be announced at the fitness industry awards dinner at Birmingham in September.
Avalon’s Operations Manager, Rob Taylor, is proud of the outstanding results. He said: “We are all absolutely delighted at the level of achievement and the elevated status our scores have given us in the leisure field – the staff are to be congratulated on their commitment to the process and their determination to demonstrate continuous improvement for the residents of Mendip.”
