Bridge-climber scales the summit of Sydney icon

BridgeClimb Sydney celebrated the two millionth Climber, to experience “the Climb of their Life” on the world famous Sydney Harbour Bridge today, Tuesday 28th August 2007. At 10.10am Ron Fienberg, from the USA, scaled to the summit of the Bridge on BridgeClimb’s newest experience, The Discovery Climb.

To mark the occasion BridgeClimb’s Chairman and Founder, Paul Cave, congratulated Mr Fienberg and presented him with a signed edition of the book, Bridging Sydney. The book has been produced to mark the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Mr. Cave said, “BridgeClimb is delighted to reach this milestone and we are privileged to be able to welcome Climbers from Australia and all over the world, to experience the Sydney Harbour Bridge”.

“We are proud to offer a choice of two unique experiences for people to enjoy, in total safety, on this world renowned Australian icon.” At the summit Mr Fienberg was also presented with a trophy containing a cement core from the original 1932 Sydney Harbour Bridge foundation work, sourced from the excavation of the BridgeClimb access tunnel.

Mr Fienberg, a Software Engineer from Simi Valley, California (just outside Los Angeles), Climbed with his wife Barbara and said “Today’s my 13th wedding anniversary to Barbara. I arrived at BridgeClimb and found out I was the 2 millionth Climber. Now today is just such a memorable day”.

Since BridgeClimb opened in October 1998 56% of Climbers are international visitors to Sydney, 26% are Sydney-siders and 18% are from the rest of Australia.

Climbs depart the BridgeClimb base every 10 minutes, 7 days a week. Climbers can choose between The Bridge Climb and The Discovery Climb at dawn, during the day, twilight and at night.
