Scotland, the home of golf

3rd October 2007 Print
This week sees the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship back at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie from 4 to 7 October 2007. This unique golf event brings together the best professional golfers and some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry from Hugh Grant to Samuel L. Jackson. This year sees Dennis Hopper and Ronan Keating return and they will be joined by stars such as Kyle MacLachlan and Ray Romano.

Welcoming the event, Malcolm Roughead, Director of Marketing at VisitScotland today said, “It is great to see the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship going from strength to strength. It is a fantastic competition that will attract golf enthusiasts and star spotters alike. Visitors have a fabulous opportunity to come to Fife and take advantage of some of the great golf deals on offer like the First in Fife Golf Pass. My tip for those attending the event is to watch the stars but also play some of Scotland’s hidden gems when they are here.”

Tickets from Thursday to Saturday are free on all courses. On the final day on Sunday at the Old Course, tickets are £15 for adults and £10 for the over 60's. Students and under 18's are free on Sunday too. To buy tickets online go to Theticketfactory.com.

As the golfing year draws to a close, Malcolm Roughead, reflected, “This has truly been a fabulous year for golf in Scotland. There have been so many highlights including The Open, Senior Open Championship presented by Aberdeen Asset Management and RICOH Women’s British Open. To successfully host three majors and 10 additional international competitions is just phenomenal. In this month alone we have the Alfred Dunhill Link Championship and the International Pairs UK final in Carnoustie. Such endorsement truly positions Scotland as the home of golf.”
