Oceans of fun at Blue Planet Aquarium
After a storming success during the summer holidays, Blue Planet Aquarium near Chester is bringing back two exciting activities for kids this October half-term, plus a weekend of ghoulish fun ahead of Halloween.Crew Member for a Day and Bubblemaker will run during the holiday (20th – 28th October) offering children the unique chance to learn some new skills.
Crew Member for a Day is a full day activity from 10am to 4pm, letting kids become part of the Blue Planet Aquarium ‘Crew’. Children will have a chance to try their hand at presenting and actually taking part in one of the aquarium’s live aquatheatre shows.
Not for the squeamish, the day will also include food presentation and feeding alongside the Rangers. Staff will share with the newly recruited ‘Crew’ some of the best kept secrets of how Blue Planet Aquarium works with the marine life in their care.
Bubblemaker is a PADI standard diving introduction, to give 8-15 year olds the perfect chance to discover scuba diving in a 45 minute session in an outdoor dive pool with Blue Planet Aquarium’s experienced dive team.
This fun session will teach kids how to use the diving equipment and about safe breathing techniques and underwater signals. At the end of their session they will receive a badge to mark their achievement.
As well as these activities, Blue Planet will be transformed into ‘Boo Planet’ for the weekend 26th-28th October, ahead of Halloween.
Fun activities will include Spooky Face Painting and a Spooky Trail as well as a Disgusting Feely Tank where visitors can dare to plunge their hands into the slime to win a trick or a treat.
Andy Hygate, Park Director for Blue Planet Aquarium, says: “Crew Member for a Day and Bubblemaker were a huge success during the summer holiday, giving kids a chance to learn some exciting new skills, and we’ve had great demand to bring them back again.
“We’re all looking forward to ‘Boo Planet’ too, which will offer lots of spooky surprises for visitors to enjoy. We’ll be transforming the whole aquarium into a haunted haven and welcome all of our visitors to join in the fun.”
Crew member for a day is available to children aged 7-12, lasts from 10am to 4pm and lunch, drinks and snacks are provided. BubbleMaker is for children aged 8-15 and all equipment is provided for this 45 minute dive introduction.
