National Space Centre – Officially excellent
The National Space Centre has scooped the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year Award at last nights East Midlands Excellence Awards. Awarded by GMTV presenter, Andrew Castle, the National Space Centre picked up the “tourism Oscar” at a black tie dinner, attended by over 300 of the regions top tourism executives.The award comes just two weeks prior to the launch of the new £½ million gallery and shows how the city’s largest visitor attraction is going from strength to strength.
Malika Andress, Marketing Manager at the National Space Centre said; “This award is a great achievement for all the team at the National Space Centre. We always strive to provide the best visitor experience to every person who we welcome through our doors. Winning the award means we will continue to maintain the highest standards, develop the National Space Centre and evolve with our visitors.”
The National Space Centre will now be in with a chance to go through to the national final of the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence, which will take place next spring.
• The National Space Centre is the UK's largest visitor attraction and research facility dedicated to space.
• The National Space Centre opened to the public in June 2001 and has welcomed over 1.5 million visitors, including 300,000 school children.
• The National Space Centre is the Millennium Commission landmark project for the East Midlands. It was co-founded by The University of Leicester and Leicester City Council. Its other founding partners are BT and East Midlands Development Agency.
