Entries open for top 10 UK marathon

Voted one of the top 10 marathon courses in the UK by readers of Runners World, any budding runner, jogger, or walker can apply for the chance to enter before anyone else by sending in a stamped addressed envelope ready to receive the 2008 entry form straight away when it’s released on 2 April. Previous entrants will also be sent an invitation to sign up for the 2008 challenge with marathon organisers hoping to receive at least 50% of entries online through runnersworld.co.uk.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said: “This event is extremely popular and boasts a great international reputation, with runners from all over the world always keen to take part. Last year’s marathon saw a record finishing time so I am sure there will be budding participants ready to take on a challenge in 2008. Set on Beachy Head and taking in parts of the South Downs, the event is a fantastic opportunity to keep fit, appreciate the picturesque landscape and raise vital funds for your chosen charity.”
The 26-mile cross country challenge starts and finishes at St. Bede’s School, with entrants invited to take advantage of the excellent facilities available, including a refreshing dip in the swimming pool or a much-needed massage after the event for a nominal fee.
The event is organised by Eastbourne Borough Council and will be supported by Rix and Kay Solicitors for the third year, running alongside Eastbourne Hospitality Association (EHA).
Marshals will be on hand around the route to provide regular refreshments and encourage all the entrants with entertainment organised to keep spirits high. With the chance to apply for an entry form now or enter online as soon as entries open on 2 April, the 1,750 places are expected to fill up quickly so keen Beachy Head challengers should grab their trainers now!
Kids can also take part in their own mini marathon again this year with the Junior Challenge set to be repeated with specially designed 2 and 3km courses offering the chance for the whole family to get involved in 2008.
