Steam off to see Postman Pat and Jess the Cat
Postman Pat and Jess the Cat fans should circle May 10 in their diary, as that’s the day the loveable pair have made a date to join Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway for some great family fun.On the day, passengers can travel on a Greendale railway, boarding Ravenglass and Eskdale’s wonderful steam trains at Ravenglass station, for the start of a beautiful seven-mile journey to Dalegarth.
The first train will depart Ravenglass at 10.30am and there will be frequent services throughout the day, each one taking passengers to the foot of England’s highest mountains.
Whilst awaiting their train, all children will receive a postcard, with some activities to tackle as they travel. Once they’ve completed the tasks, they can head to the downstairs room at Dalegarth to post the completed card. Here, they will also be able to do some colouring and other activities, under trained supervision.
At Dalegarth, Postman Pat® and Jess the Cat will have lots of time to meet and greet children and have photos taken with them as a few hugs are given.
Later on, after the railway has emptied the postbox, it will send a postcard to all the children who made the day so special, to thank them for coming along.
Older children, parents and grandparents will have some treats of their own as the train wends its way on the country’s most beautiful train journey, through green valleys and beautiful countryside. Eager eyes can potentially spot oystercatchers, ringed plovers, deer, red squirrels, buzzards, Herdwick sheep and Saddleback pigs.
Pre-booking for this special Postman Pat and Jess the Cat day is not necessary. The fares will be £10.20 for an adult, £5.10 for a child aged 3 to 15 and £26.00 for a family ticket for two adults and two children. Under 3s will travel for free. The last train back from Dalegarth will depart at 4.50 p.m.
