6th June 2008 Print
Summer concert fever hits Eastbourne Bandstand The summer concert programme at the south coast’s unique outdoor entertainment venue is now underway in an opening week that sees a traditional afternoon band session, a proms concert, an 1812 firework display, and Afternoon on Broadway. Plus the Bandstand’s popular Friday Night Tribute concert is back with last year’s favourite Abba Fever entertaining the crowds with their unrivalled Swedish pop sounds and with some of the concerts already half sold out.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said “This summer is set to see a very impressive season at the Bandstand with a real variety of concerts every week. Abba are popular with the old and young alike and it’s only right that as last year’s favourite act, they kick off this year’s colourful concert programme. The Bandstand is loved by residents and visitors, and with rock ‘n’ roll concerts and choral singers joining the entertainment schedule from the end of the month too, the Bandstand presents a truly unique line up for 2008.”

Sundays at the Bandstand will now see two concerts, with the traditional brass sounds joined by an evening Proms Concert. East Grinstead Concert Band are ready to present the second proms concert of 2008 this weekend with bands from around the south set to make appearances over the coming weeks.

Wednesdays are set to dazzle at the Bandstand with the spectacular 1812 Firework Nights returning. Audiences can listen to the sounds of the Mayfield Band tonight while amazing pyrotechnic displays fill the skies overhead.

And Afternoon on Broadway begins its regular Saturday afternoon concert slot on 7 June with Wealden Brass Band providing an entertaining afternoon at the historic venue.

With a history steeping back 73 years, splendid 1930’s architecture, and a bumper 21-week concert programme, Eastbourne Bandstand is a unique British venue.

The only fully operational Bandstand in the whole country, Eastbourne Bandstand presents an unmatched outdoor entertainment venue that offers a diverse concert programme to maintain core audiences and attract new markets too.

Last year’s bumper concert programme attracted record crowds of up to 27,000 and concert organisers, dedicated to offering a variety of concerts and maintaining the original beauty of this landmark venue, expect to see even more people through the doors in 2008.
