Banish credit crunch blues with a whale of a party

18th June 2008 Print
For anybody thinking of whale-watching in South Africa, the very best time to go is during the annual Whale Festival in Hermanus at the end of September. Original Travel has the private villa at award-winning Birkenhead House on hold for a group of up to 12 friends over the weekend of the festival.

Destination:
Walker Bay, Hermanus: the heart of the Cape Whale Route, on the southernmost tip of Africa.

Accommodation:
Birkenhead House, voted “Best Located Hotel” in the Condé Nast Gold List 2008 Awards. An idyllic coastal retreat perched high on the cliffs above Walker Bay, Birkenhead House has sweeping views of the coastline.

What:
The annual Hermanus Whale Festival. Hermanus comes to life at this time and not only is the whale-spotting unmissable, but the town’s atmosphere is one of party and celebration - where else would you have the chance to stand on the cliffs and celebrate the mighty mammals' arrival with an en masse whale wave?!

How many people?
Up to 12 - Original Travel has held the hotel’s 6-room private villa for you and your family and friends.

How much?
From £1,600 per person, including international flights with BA, 1 night at Kensington Place (or similar) in Cape Town, 2 nights at Birkenhead Villa (exclusive hire), 1 night at Klein Genot (or similar) in Franschhoek, and transfers throughout (car hire optional).
