Take your tribe to the Aquarium this summer

Take your tribe to the Aquarium this summer Take your tribe down to the Lakes Aquarium, near Newby Bridge, from 28th July to 15th August and they'll feel right at home, thanks to the leading Cumbrian visitor attraction laying on a Tribal Global Extravaganza that complements its new global theme.

Exciting daily craft sessions, between 11.00am-12.30pm and 2.30pm-4.00pm, allow visitors of all ages to have heaps of fun creating dreamcatchers and Native Indian head dresses, whether they aspire to being Pocahontas, Lilo, or a powerful chief!

Children can then create a design to affix to the totem pole drawing wall. If they include their details, their design could become a Tribal Global winner, as there's a prize of a fantastic Lakes Aquarium Goodie Bag up for grabs.

Those who hit the Matching Pairs Quiz Trail, created specifically for this event, will be able to test their powers of observation, as well as learning lots about the creatures living in the Aquarium. Whilst it is home to a wide variety of freshwater fish, including scary piranhas, it also houses creatures including pygmy marmosets, diving ducks, a caiman, Asian otters, a Cuban boa, red-eyed tree frogs and loads more!

When tummies start to rumble, there's a chance to take part in bug eating, taking place every day at 1.45pm, just after illuminating talks in the attraction's Morecambe Bay area. It will be hard to resist tackling some of the fare on offer, whether that's water beetles, crickets, scorpions, or various types of grub!

All of these delightful dishes are found in the diets of various tribes-people around the world and are sure to give children lots to talk about when they get back to school, or send in their holiday postcards! Less adventurous diners can simply head to Oscar's Restaurant, with its wonderful Windermere lake view.

From 11am on August 2, 3, 9 and 10, owls will be at the Aquarium, as local owl experts, Furness Owls, explain exactly why these birds are so revered by different tribes.

All of this activity is included within the normal admission prices of £8.50 for an adult, £5.50 for children aged 3-15 and £7.00 for concessions. Family tickets are also available.

Visitors will also be able to view many other creatures and learn more about their behaviour in the wild, as they move between geographically themed zones, including a Rain Forest area.

There is also the opportunity to spend time checking out the marvellous Virtual Dive Bell, that enables visitors to take a virtual journey to the bottom of an African lake, to come face to face with hippos, crocs and sharks. Once this drama is complete, they can spend hours learning what makes these creatures tick, using stunning interactive screens and exciting computer games.

The Lakes Aquarium opens at 9am and shuts at 6pm, with last admission one hour before closing. More information is available at lakesaquarium.co.uk.
