The New York Trapeze School has landed on Santa Monica Pier

Already boasting colourful characters, rides, games and fun, the circus atmosphere at the Santa Monica Pier has been increased with the new Trapeze School New York (TSNY) which opened for business in May 2008. The Santa Monica Pier is celebrating its Centennial birthday this year.

“The Santa Monica Pier is an incredibly beautiful place to be. We can not imagine a more wonderful home for this amazing activity,” said TSNY co-founder Jonathon Covant. “In addition to classes that are open to the public, we have student recitals and professional shows that everyone will enjoy.” Watching a great show isn’t the best part, says Covant; “The drama of someone flying for the first time, their triumphs and struggles are endlessly fascinating.” It’s uplifting — no pun intended! “We have simple goals here at Trapeze School New York; opening people’s minds to new possibilities, keeping things safe and having a great time doing it.”

The Santa Monica Pier is the Trapeze School New York’s fifth location. They have other schools in New York City, Boston and Baltimore. The open-air school is nestled between Pacific Park and the Playland Arcade, offering great visibility for passers by to watch the trapeze in action. If spectators are so inclined to get in on the action, classed are offered for everyone from beginners to advanced flyers. There are multiple-class discounts, group classes, workshops, special events and even birthday party packages! People not sure of their level are recommended to attend a mixed class first for evaluation by an instructor. No prior experience is necessary however, and first-time students will learn the knee-hang and may even be able to try a catch. All students will have the opportunity to advance their skills.

The Trapeze School of New York offers the opportunity for everyone from the thrill-seeker to fear-facer, athlete to couch potato, casual flyer to serious aerialist. Amazingly enough, TSNY has seen people ranging in all desires and abilities inspire each other and bring energy to the school.

Santa Monica is the perfect epicentre for exploring Southern California. An urban village by the sea, Santa Monica enjoys a residential air with superb restaurants, chic hotels and a buzzing nightlife – all just minutes away from the city sprawl of Los Angeles. An upscale oasis known for its roller-blading residents and the famous Santa Monica Pier, the city is also an ongoing location for popular films and TV series.
