21st August 2008 Print
Glasgay! incorporates Tennessee Williams Festival For one year only the Glasgay! festival, Scotland’s annual celebration of queer culture, will also incorporate The Tennessee Williams Festival – a six week programme of work marking the 25th anniversary of the author’s death. The festival features four UK premieres of lesser known works, a major classic revival, and a six week classic film series at London’s BFI Southbank, Glasgow Film Theatre and Edinburgh Filmhouse.

The Tennessee Williams Festival line up features Andy Arnold’s first production for The Tron Theatre Co. with a classic revival of Suddenly Last Summer plus the Scottish premiere of 3 short plays – Hello from Bertha, This Property is Condemned, Talk To Me Like the Rain and Let Me Listen.

There will be four Glasgay productions – one featuring Laurance Rudic (formerly Citizens Theatre) in the UK premiere of The Parade, written when Tennessee first fell in love in 1940. The Scottish premiere of And Tell Sad Stories of the Death of Queens, a lost gem about misdirected passions, deluded drag queens and seedy straight boys. The UK premiere of The Municipal Abattoir and The Chalky White Substance.

The festival will also feature a new bio-play called Elysian Fields by Derek Mcluckie focusing on the life and curious death of Tennessee Williams.

The Glasgay! Festival line-up includes a wide mix of theatre, visual art, comedy, music and film, including performance from Stephen Petronio Dance (New York, USA) and Scotland's Theatre Cryptic; visual art from David Trullo and Gregor Laird; plus BOUT!QUE, a brand new four-week programme of contemporary performance from emerging Scottish artists.

There will be comedy courtesy of Tina C, Dilly Keane, Paul Sinha, Tim Fountain, Susan Calman and Wicked Wenches along with a selection of gigs and legendary club nights including Utter Gutter, Arches Death Disco and Amy Lamé’s Pom Pom International.

Glasgay! is one of the coolest and diverse events in the annual calendar and offers entertainment for all ages, tastes and persuasions.
