Calling all aspiring adventurers If you’ve had enough of the humdrum of working life or recently graduated and are looking for your next big adventure then the 2009 Land Rover ‘Go Beyond’ Bursary run by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) could be the perfect antidote for aspiring adventurers.

The bursary, now in its second year, is open for applications until 26th September 2008 and the winners will receive a 110 Defender and £10,000 funding to go beyond in an adventure of a lifetime that will enrich their geographical knowledge and learning.

So if you’re an aspiring explorer, passionate humanitarian or eager scientist and have an idea for an epic journey that goes beyond your usual limit, experiences or boundaries and from which you will learn and share your learning with others down load an application from rgs.org/grants.

All you’ll need to do is provide a brief description of your journey and outline how it would promote a wider understanding of geography and the world we live in.

The 2008 Land Rover “Go Beyond” Bursary recipients team ‘Latitude’ departed from Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall earlier this year and are driving around the world along the line latitude of 50° North, reporting on the effects of the changing climate to the people around the world who live on this shared latitude.

Spike Read, one of the 2008 Bursary recipients, speaking from their current location in Outer Mongolia said: “We’re having the most amazing adventure and we simply wouldn’t be able to provide this unique report on the ever changing climate at 50° North, and the implication for land workers and their families, had we not applied for the Land Rover “Go Beyond” Bursary last year.

“It has provided us with a unique opportunity to visit a number of schools along the way, where we present an insight into our journey and build links with pupils along the latitude which we hope will be in place for years to come. We recommend the Bursary to everyone and we only wish we could reapply for next year’s selection!”
