Frontier City makes AOL Travel’s list of unique them parks

Frontier City, now celebrating its 50th Anniversary, has made AOL travel’s list of 10 Unique Theme Parks. Noting that “sometimes, the best surprises come in the most unexpected places,” the site highlights a number of these hidden gem locations that offer tons of family fun and unique attractions.

Frontier City, recognized for a down-home feel and western-theme, also stands out by offering an array of high thrill rides and notable live entertainment. The park is also acknowledged for its tremendous season pass value offering unlimited visits to the park and a free concert series featuring top-notch talent.

Frontier City is Oklahoma's largest theme park with a Western theme, it covers over 40 acres of rides, shows and attractions for the entire family. The parks 50 rides include roller coasters and water rides and visitors can brave the thrills offered on the Wildcat, Diamondback and Silver Bullet roller coasters or cool off on the white waters of Renegade Rapids or the Mystery River Log Flume.

The Steel Lasso opened July 17, 2008 in celebration of Frontier City's 50th Anniversary and is the first and currently the only suspended roller coaster in Oklahoma. It allows riders to dangle their feet high above the Frontier with unhindered views of the territory ahead.

Frontier City, the largest seasonal attraction in the state, first opened its gates in 1958 as a Western Town theme park. The 2008 season offered numerous special promotions in honour of the historic 50th Anniversary.
