‘The Birth of Genius’ joins Shakespeare with Elgar

There are a number of exciting new events and exhibitions happening at both Birthplaces. At Shakespeare’s Birthplace visitors can listen to a 45 minute interactive talk ‘All about Shakespeare’ and see the house decorated and furnished as Shakespeare would have known it as a boy. Demonstrations by costumed guides of the ancient craft of glove-making as practised by Shakespeare’s father will also take place. The new visitor centre and exhibition entitled ‘Life, Love & Legacy: A New Introduction to William Shakespeare’, is due to open in April and will see visitors journey through five zones in a truly immersive experience.
After lunch, visitors then travel along a scenic route through the picturesque Warwickshire countryside to the Birthplace of England’s great composer. The country cottage where Elgar was born on 2 June 1857 is set in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside with views towards the Malvern Hills. The Birthplace Cottage and Visitor Centre give a fascinating insight into Elgar and his music. Visitors can explore the unique collection of Elgar memorabilia which includes original manuscripts, sketches and personal family items.
