Florida museum announces Warhol exhibition
The Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins has announced new exhibitions opening this spring, including a showing of new works by the Rollins studio art faculty that will feature painting, printmaking, photography, and sculpture. CFAM will also present Andy Warhol: Personalities, selections of its recent acquisition of 150 Polaroid and black and white photographs by Andy Warhol.Opening April 3, Studio Art Biennial includes the most recent work of Rachel Simmons, Dana Hargrove, Joshua Almond, Dawn Roe, and Rose Casterline. Each artist presents a distinctive style and approach to contemporary aesthetics, from Almond’s lyrical wood and neon sculptures to Roe’s meditative large-format photographs to Simmons’ dynamic prints inspired by her recent sojourn in the Antarctic.
Hargrove recently won first-place in the National Young Artists Competition sponsored by the Miami University of Ohio for her abstracted topographic paintings. On view through August 30.
Opening May 15, Andy Warhol: Personalities features photographs taken during the 1980’s of socialites, celebrities, and patrons, including Carolina Herrera, Pia Miller, and Ric Ocasek. These photographs served as a kind of “sketchbook” for the artist and also document his diverse circle of acquaintances. The Polaroids in this exhibition are selected from the 150 Warhol photographs given to the Cornell at Rollins in 2008 by the Photographic Legacy Program of the Andy Warhol Foundation. On view through January 3, 2010.
CFAM will also host its annual Senior Art Show from April 24-May 10 featuring the work of graduating Studio Art majors.
Remaining on view through the summer is the popular Portrait of a Lady, which highlights some of the best and most loved depictions of women in the Cornell’s permanent collection. This small focus exhibition illustrates how the depiction of women has changed over time as tastes and fashion have evolved and the status of women in society has been raised. On view through August 30.
The Cornell Fine Arts Museum has been recognized as one of the finest collegiate museums in the southeast. Gallery hours are 10 AM to 4 PM Tuesday through Friday, and weekends 12 to 5 PM. Admission is $5 for adults. There is no charge for CFAM members, Rollins College faculty, staff, and all students with current ID.
