A celebration of science in Edinburgh

The Edinburgh International Science Festival (sciencefestival.co.uk) is the world’s first and Europe’s largest celebration of science and technology and takes place in Scotland’s Capital City- Edinburgh in April.

Since 1987, it has been inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds to discover the wonder of the world around them. That’s 21 years of show-stopping, jaw-dropping, eye-popping science!

This year is no exception as 2009 marks the International Year of Astronomy and the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth. Events will take place at various venues across Edinburgh from 4-18th April celebrating a variety of fantastic contributions, including a look at the cosmos, From the Earth to the Universe, and a fascinating debate, Darwin, Ideology and God.

Highlights of this year’s Festival are set to include:

ASIMO the world’s most advanced humanised robot which will visit Scotland for the very 1st time. It can walk, run, dance and speak! ASIMO can be seen between 4-5 April at various times throughout the day at Edinburgh’s McEwan Hall.

Hauntings: The science of ghosts is a special preview to event you get you right into the spirit of the Science Festival including how scientists investigate haunted houses and offers the chance to meet the man responsible for the ghostly goings on in the harry potter movies! Showing at the University of Edinburgh on 4 April.

As well as the above, Edinburgh’s City Art Centre will be opening all of its seven floors to families so whether you’re a budding Einstein or interested in outer space, there’s something there for all the family to enjoy!
