Hook up in Cornwall this Father’s Day

4th May 2009 Print
Hook up in Cornwall this Father’s Day With the summer Cornish shark fishing season getting into full swing, Barclay House, situated in the historic fishing village of Looe in Cornwall, is offering a refreshing location to treat dad with a fishing break this Father’s Day (21st June).

With Looe harbour just a ten-minute walk from Barclay House, guests can embark on a day’s shark fishing, take an excursion to historic Looe island or try out a speedboat ride. Barclay House is an 11-bedroom Victorian house, which oozes charm and offers a serene atmosphere surrounded by six acres of ever changing scenery and striking river views. The hotel offers a relaxing base from which to explore the glorious Cornish scenery and celebrate Father’s Day. The hotel’s head chef, Benjamin Palmer can create a Cornish picnic bursting with local seasonal produce to complete a fishing or sightseeing voyage.

The hotel boasts an AA Rosette-winning restaurant, using the finest local produce including fresh “day boat” fish from the trawlers of Looe, Cornish cheeses and other regional delicacies, and creating a range of local dishes showcased by an ever changing seasonal menu. The restaurant's French doors open out to the terrace and gardens, overlooking the East Looe River valley, where visitors can sample a refreshing glass of local wine whilst watching the sunset.

Eight luxury self-catering cottages are also available. Perched above the hotel, they are geared for couples, families or groups to share. One-, two- or three-bedroom cottages feature a split-level design to include en suite bathrooms with Jacuzzi-style bath tubs, as well as a BBQ area and private balcony. Visitors can also take advantage of the heated outdoor swimming pool set in a natural suntrap, sauna and extensive gardens.

Graham Brooks, resident proprietor of Barclay House comments: “There are so many activities to do in and around Looe, and shark fishing is something everyone should try. We can advise on the best trips and can even provide a hampered packed lunch to take on the boat. The hotel is recently enhanced, and we like to think the bedrooms offer guests a refuge from today’s hectic pace – a bolt-hole in which to relax and enjoy the commanding views over the East Looe valley.”

Looe is easily reached by road, rail and air with flights from London, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Dublin and Cork direct to Plymouth, just 19 miles
