Half term fun at the National Space Centre

To keep visitors busy over the Half Term period the National Space Centre is offering not one addition to the six interactive galleries, but three.

To celebratethe 400th anniversary of the first recorded astronomical observations with a telescope by Galileo the National Space Centre is launching a brand new 360° fulldome experience in the Space Theatre.

We Are Astronomers, narrated by David Tennant, is the brand new, exciting, immersive experience that opens to visitors at the National Space Centre on 23 May 2009.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy a brand new exhibition of new images from the Hubble Deep Space Telescope, some of the most amazing pictures ever to be seen.

The Hubble Space Telescope has made some of the most dramatic discoveries in the history of astronomy. From its vantage point 600 km above the Earth, Hubble can detect light with 'eyes' 5 times sharper than the best ground-based telescopes and looks deep into space where some of the most profound mysteries are still buried in the mists of time.

If that was not enough there is a full programme of craft session for children of all ages to join in. Come along and create your own Hubble images in this glow in the dark art session, or make your own Hubble telescope in the papercraft workshops.

The LEGO Mars Rover Challenge and Tour of the Night Sky sessions will also be running throughout the week (subject to availability), as well as up close science with the Gallery Buskers.

So there is something for everybody this half term, in fact there is so much going on visitors may need to go back a second time! If visitors are looking for a return visit, the centre offers a free upgrade to an Annual Pass, so they will get 318 days for the price of one (terms and conditions apply) a credit crunching deal for every family.
