Bermuda to host world’s top golfers

Following the success of the 2008’s competition at the Mid Ocean Club, visitors to the island in 2009 will have another opportunity to see some of golf’s greatest players.
The high-stakes tournament, which features a US$1.35 million prize pot will be held at the Port Royal Golf Course 19 – 21 October 2009. The 2010 PGA Grand Slam tournament will also take place in Bermuda.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf concluded its 26th edition on 15 October 2008 at The Mid Ocean Club, Bermuda, won by Jim Furyk.
In 2009, the winners of the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship will earn the right to compete on the Port Royal Golf Course. Opened in 1970, the 6,842-yard, par-71 course has recently been modified offering uninterrupted ocean views and is due to reopen on 1 June 2009.
Travel packages to the high-profile tournament will be available with details to be announced in 2009.
“We’re delighted that the PGA Grand Slam of Golf is coming back to Bermuda,” said Dr. The Hon. Ewart F. Brown, J.P., M.P., the Premier of Bermuda. “The last two Grand slams created a lot of excitement and produced an overwhelmingly positive impact on our tourism industry. We’re looking forward to doing it again and on an even bigger scale.”
Designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Port Royal Golf Course features some of Bermuda's most picturesque and dramatic holes in golf and provides a tough test for players.
