The event is organised by the PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association), the Turkish Sailing Federation (TYF) and Sportworks, with support from Alacati Council.
Pegasus Airlines, renowned for its safe, affordable and punctual flights, is lead sponsor of the World Slalom Windsurfing Championship for the third year. Attracting the world's fastest windsurfers, the event perfectly complements Pegasus Airlines’ youthful and dynamic brand.
Turkey will be represented in the 2009 Pegasus Airlines PWA Cup by national athletes Ertuðrul Ýçingir, Bora Kozanoðlu, Enes Yýlmazer and Ali Palamutcu and, in the women’s category, European champion Çaðla Kubat. Young and successful Turkish surfers also taking part include Lena Aylin Erdil, Gül Tercan and Melek Toraman.
92 of the world's best windsurfers from 35 countries, including the USA, UK, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Switzerland, Israel, Greece, France, Italy and Canada, will compete for the 2009 Pegasus Airlines PWA World Cup and its 45,000 Euro prize. The event will wrap up with an award ceremony and Surf & Sound Music Festival on Saturday 15 August.
Boasting natural beauty and abundant historic sites, Alaçatý is one of Turkey’s most popular holiday destinations, as well as one of the world's most important centres for windsurfing. The Surf'n Sound Sports and Music Festival, organised by Sportworks, celebrates its fifth year this summer where you can enjoy the festival's exciting line up of music and events alongside the sea and sunshine and windsurfing cup.
