Defending champions Audi claim second consecutive DTM win

22nd April 2008 Print
Oliver Jarvis endured a turbulent second German Touring Car Masters (DTM) race along with fellow Brit Katherine Legge at Oschersleben – a race which saw Audi finish 1-2 for the second consecutive weekend to extend its championship lead.

Jarvis lined-up a magnificent fourth – his best DTM qualifying position – but was hit from behind by fellow Briton Jamie Green (Mercedes) at the second corner at the start which spun around his Audi and damaged vital aerodynamic “wings”. Oliver was penalised with a drive-through penalty for an over-zealous overtaking manoeuvre as he moved up from 19th to 13th on lap 12 and took the chequered flag in 15th.

Legge, meanwhile, brought her Audi home to the finish for the second consecutive weekend but, having ran as high as sixth during the second pit-stop phase, finished a frustrated 19th having spun at the first corner on lap 32 and lost further time four laps later after serving a drive-though penalty requested by the organisers after an on-track indiscretion.

In scoring his maiden DTM race win, Timo Scheider (Audi) now leads the title race from fellow German Martin Tomczyk (Audi) who finished second. Reigning champion Mattias Ekström (Audi), of Sweden, was also hit at the start causing damage but nevertheless scored a single point with eighth and lies third in the series.

Oliver Jarvis (24), from Burwell, Cambs. Audi Sport Team Phoenix, Audi A4DTM (2007):
Qualified: 4th (1:21.714). Race Result: 15th

"The race was obviously disappointing especially after my qualifying result and was poor reward for the Phoenix team who did a really good job for me. Coming out of Turn 1 and into Turn 2, a Mercedes drove into me and spun me around which immediately ruined my race. Coming back through the field, I unfortunately contacted with [Christijan] Albers which earned me a deserved drive-through penalty.”

Katherine Legge (27), Haslemere, Surrey. Futurecom-TME, Audi A4DTM (2006):
Qualified: 19th (1:23.300). Race Result: 17th

"It was a turbulent race. I had good race pace which is pleasing but I’m certainly not happy with the result. I had some handling issues with the car in the later stages.”
