24 hour Shakespeare Country

Last year the service won the West Midlands Regional ICT Excellence Award for Best Innovative Product. The service, which is provided through CandiTV is the first of its kind in the world and provides a unique and simple method of interaction 24 hours a day. The technology enables the visitor to quickly access information about Shakespeare Country which will be displayed on a screen at the library using an ordinary mobile telephone.
The service offered at Southam is a joint initiative with the Better Welcome for Southam Group which is supported by Stratford-on-Avon District Council. Funding for the installation has been provided by Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Advantage West Midlands, Warwickshire County Council Libraries and Information Service and Shakespeare Country.
The service aims to improve the visitor experience in Southam, provide access to services for people through the effective use of the internet and computer technology, promote Shakespeare Country as a world class visitor destination and attract and disperse visitors to surrounding market towns and villages. There are plans to implement this unique service at other locations in the near future including Shipston-on-Stour and Royal Leamington Spa.
Phil Hackett, Chief Executive of Shakespeare Country, stated “We are delighted to offer this out of hour’s TIC service in Southam. This innovative service has proved to be immensely successful as it captures information about the visitor’s interest and enables visitors to find out information at any time of the day or night. We look forward to rolling out this popular service at other locations within Shakespeare Country in the near future.”
