Become an artistic Grange rover this summer

On both August 30 and September 27, Prom Art events will be staged on the promenade of the fashionable Edwardian resort, with around 94 artists setting up stalls to showcase their work along a 600-metre stretch of this atmospheric and scenic seaside walkway.
Against the backdrop of the sea and views across Morecambe Bay, professional and amateur artists, schoolchildren and part-time crafts enthusiasts will be displaying original watercolours and oil paintings, photography, cards, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, glassware, sculpture, ceramics and knitwear.
The artists are in situ at the promenade from 9.30 am to 4pm, with other entertainment from troupes such as morris dancers and belly dancers, and a brass band at the August event, adding to the occasion.
Various car parks are just a short stroll away from the promenade and the Grange-over-Sands railway station is only a short hop further, lying on the Lancaster to Barrow-in-Furness line.
The reputation of this event is such that around one third of the artists travel from over fifty miles away, from all over the northwest and locations such as Warrington, Bradford, Wigan, Bolton and Thornton Cleveleys.
As well as dipping into the purse to purchase unique works, visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the peaceful promenade, enjoy refreshments and chat to the artists.
A children’s play area is located alongside the promenade, whilst Grange also boasts ornamental gardens, a duck pond and great birdwatching vantage points, providing something for everyone.
The Flookburgh Brass Band – the North of England’s brass band champions 2009 -will be playing in the park from 2pm to 4pm whilst the August Prom Art event is taking place.
These free Prom Art events are ideal credit-crunch busting days out, so put them in the diary and craft a way of getting to Prom Art this summer.
