Viral tourism game nominated for top award

Shakespeare Country’s new viral online game, designed by Koko Digital, has been nominated in two categories at this year’s prestigious Drum Awards for the Digital Industries (DADI).

‘Romeo - Wherefore Art Thou?’ has been nominated as finalists in ‘Best campaign which became viral’ and ‘Best Interactive Entertainment Website, Game or Campaign’. The DADI awards are the leading UK awards for digital companies and celebrate and reward digital excellence.

Competition for the awards is tough with names such as Cadbury, Sony, BBC and ITV competing in the same category. Shakespeare Country will find out if their game has won at an awards ceremony held on Friday 13 November at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

The game, which was launched on 19 May, has proved incredibly popular. Over two million users played the game in the first fortnight and nearly 11 million have now played the game to date.

The platform style game, which can be found at shakespearegame.com sees the player guide Romeo through a Shakespeare Country landscape to reach Juliet and rescue her from the balcony. The game aims to encourage players, their friends and family to visit Shakespeare Country and interact with elements of the brand. The game also aims to raise brand awareness as well as being used to capture data for Shakespeare Country.

Phil Hackett, Chief Executive of Shakespeare Country stated “We’re extremely proud that our new online game has been nominated for such a prestigious award. The game has already proved to be immensely popular around the world. It’s a great achievement for Koko Digital to be nominated as finalists and we wish them every success in November”.
