Colombo to host Sri Lanka’s first Art Biennale
Joining New York, Sydney, Singapore, Venice and Bangladesh, Colombo is to host Sri Lanka’s first Art Biennale from September 10-14, 2009 entitled ‘Imagining Peace’.The Biennale will be held in five large warehouses in the capital which are being converted into distinctive pavilions where local and international artists will showcase contemporary installation pieces, paintings and sculpture depicting their personal interpretations of ‘Imagining Peace’, a suitable message now that the conflict is over.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Mr. Bernard Goonetilleke, said: “This is a positive move forward for the arts community in Sri Lanka and the event has come at an ideal time to place Colombo on the international art map.”
