Backed by the Royal Navy, and with air cover provided by scores of heavily-armed military aircraft and Royal Navy ships, a crack team of Royal Marines will this month launch a waterborne assault on Britain's best-loved seaside resort.

The mock "coup" is just one of the countless events that make up Bournemouth's spectacular annual More Bus Air Festival, taking place over three days from August 20 to 23.

More than 750,000 visitors are expected to flock to the town's clifftop and beaches for the event which includes displays from the world of aviation, including the world famous Red Arrows (Friday, Saturday & Sunday), the Avro Vulcan, SallyB, Sea Vixen, The Red Bull Matadors, Guinot Wing Walkers and Eurofighter Typhoon - and is completely free of charge!

In celebration of Fly Navy 100 (100 years of Naval Aviation) the Royal Navy will be supporting the Festival with a host of assets including RFA Mounts Bay (open to visitors) HMS Cattistock and the Royal Marines who will be undertaking a beach assault on to the shores of the UK’s leading destination – a not to be missed event on Saturday & Sunday!

In the evening, ‘Night Air’ entertainment is the perfect way to end an incredible Festival line-up. On Thursday, Friday & Saturday watch performances by the Royal
Marines Combat Display Team and HM Royal Marines Band – there are also fireworks, the internationally famed heliosphere acrobat, a hot air balloon glow and Roar on the Shore, Bournemouth’s Guinness World Record attempt. In aid of Help for Heroes, Roar on the Shore will see 110,000 fireworks launched in 60-seconds or less on Thursday evening – an incredible way to start the Festival (roar-on-the-shore.co.uk for more details).

Jon Weaver Air Festival Director said: “After last year’s unprecedented success, we did wonder how we could improve on the event, but we have secured some fantastic aircraft and incredible entertainment. This year’s Air Festival will no doubt cement our reputation as the leading aviation festival of its kind – I am sure the hundreds of thousands of people expected will enjoy every minute of the free More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival!”
