Bournemouth to host world record attempt

19th August 2009 Print
More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival organisers have unveiled a world record attempt that is set to be a heart-pounding, roaring, glowing, explosive event like no other – the launch of 110,000 fireworks in 60-seconds or less.

The ‘Roar on the Shore’ world record attempt will not only be celebrating the launch of this year’s More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival but will also be a fundraising event for Help for Heroes.

Fundraising is the key to Roar on the Shore and organisers are encouraging everyone to get involved and participate – event costs will be covered by sponsorship and fundraising and the target is to raise tens of thousands of pounds for Help for Heroes.

Fireworks will be available to sponsor via SMS (text FIREWORK and your name to 82010) online at roar-on-the-shore.co.uk , onboard Wilts and Dorset buses and at official outlets including the Oceanarium, Bournemouth Eye, Front Bike Hire and the Tourist Information Centre (Westover Road and Priory Road), where donations can be made and money pledged.

Mark Elliott, Director of Operations at Help for Heroes said; “This a great event and I speak on behalf of everyone at Help for Heroes when I say how excited and truly delighted we were to be approached, recognised and asked to participate. We are a charity doing what we can for our heroes and your generosity will help stage Roar on the Shore and give us the opportunity to do more where it is really needed.”

‘Roar on the Shore’ is an idea that originated from the Air Festival Marketing and Content group members who work to promote and build the line-up of the summers most anticipated event; members are made up of, amongst others, local business people including Gina Mackin and Tim Sanders.

Presenting at the launch Tim Sanders said; “This is a superb event for us all to support as a community and as a wider region. We are all incredibly proud of last year’s Air Festival and this is our chance to really put us, our town and our generosity on the map. The results on the 20th will be incredible and I can’t wait to hear the roar!”

Added Gina Mackin; “We are confident Roar on the Shore will have national attention and regional interest…a visual extravaganza like no other backed, from the beginning, by the people and businesses of Bournemouth!”

Fundraising has already started with generous donations from The Oceanarium and Talbot Heath School who are busy raising money and getting behind this incredible South Coast event.

Roar on the Shore will follow a firework display launched from a barge between Bournemouth and Boscombe Piers at 9.30pm on Thursday 20th August. This superb World Record attempt is part of the amazing line up of evening ‘Night Air’ entertainment in Bournemouth Lower Gardens from 6pm Thursday-Saturday during the More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival.

Taking place 20th – 23rd August, More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival goers will be in for a an incredible 4-days of free entertainment with displays confirmed include the awesome Eurofighter Typhoon, Team Guinot Wingwalkers, Yakovlevs, The Blades, The Matadors, The Red Arrows and Black Cats Helicopter Display – it’s the event of the summer.
